Formal (definition): requiring a type of dress suitable for such occasions.

Another reason I love New York City. There is no real dress code, people really do wear what they want. Whether its too formal or too casual is another thing. During the Fall & Winter season I am at a formal dinner at least twice a week. For performances, one a week. Everyone there is most likely wearing black.

Most New Yorkers wear black and believe that is the only appropriate color to wear when enjoying a ‘formal’ night on the town. Its not true, here in the photos you can see that I pulled 2 pieces that contrast. My navy blazer with grey piping, and sky blue shirt with a white collar. Nothing I have on is black but still conservative enough to wear out.

Two Tips:

    1. Whatever you wear keep it on the darker side. You dont have to wear black but you also dont have to wear a bright yellow jacket.
    2. Make sure its fits! – this is what mainly separates a formal and informal setting.
