Only $15 bucks:
One of the most comfortable shirts Ive ever owned cost me $15 bucks! Its this dashiki to the left and its trending like crazy now. A dashiki is a loose, brightly colored shirt or tunic, originally from West Africa. I wore the shirt on a 90 degree day and its a piece that I would wear over and over again if it wasnt as bold, it has two side slits which makes it easier to grab items in your pocket quickly. It also allows for credit card and key storage in the front with its two large pockets. There are many reasons why I like the shirt other than its functionality. The design fit my personal style with its pop of color and bold prints. Details like the pockets and sides are a bonus.
If you do a quick google search you will find a ton of them starting at $11.99. I purchased mine from a street vendor near 7th ave and Grove street in downtown Manhattan. However I have heard most people purchase in Harlem near 116th st – 125th st. It shouldn’t be hard at all being as though this area is rich in African history, culture and goods. I travel there often to buy raw cocoa butter and have seen them around in my travels. I did find a cool black and white dashiki online here but only in size XL. I paired the look with electric blue shorts from Uniqlo (similar here, here). Im also wearing white leather sneakers from Vans with a zip in the back (limited sizes in all white so this is similar). If you can go for a bold print and color give them a try. If you’re stuck on how to wear them than don’t think about it too much. Wear it with light or distressed denim. Would you ever give it a try?
